Goodbye, iTunes for Windows!
February 9, 2024

Apple is finally saying goodbye to iTunes for good, as iTunes for Windows has been discontinued in favour of 3 new apps for Windows, Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices.

These new standalone apps are a part of Apple's plan to bring Windows in line with how the Music, TV and Podcasts app work on macOS. Preview versions of these apps launched over a year ago, back in January 2023.

Apple Music is a drop-in replacement for the Music section of the former iTunes app, allowing users to listen to music in their iTunes/Apple Music library, while the Apple TV app does the same for Movies and TV Shows, both from either local storage or Apple TV+.

The Apple Devices app gives Windows users a way of syncing, backing up and restoring their iPhones and iPads.

There is still no Apple Podcasts app for Windows, so you will still need iTunes for Windows if you want to listen to your podcasts through Apple Podcasts.

Microsoft first announced their plans for Apple Music and TV apps to come to the Microsoft Store back in October 2022.

Personally, I think that having everything in a single app is better than splitting into three separate standalone apps. Plus, iTunes is a better name in my opinion.

You can download Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices from the Microsoft Store on Windows.
