Apple Releases Updated iPad mini
October 15, 2024

Well this was an unexpected surprise to say the least...

Almost everyone expected that an updated iPad mini would eventually have to come out, and rumours had been swirling in recent weeks about it being updated at a possible Apple event in October alongside the M4 Mac mini and MacBook Pro; however, it came earlier today as nothing more than a press release.

The new iPad mini has no major changes from the last generation, released 3 years ago, however the SoC has been updated to the A17 Pro, first seen in the iPhone 15 Pro lineup last year, meaning that it also gets 8GB of RAM and Apple Intelligence support, and the base storage option has been doubled to 128GB.

A new 512GB option is also available for 799 USD, and the price of the 256GB model has been lowered from 649 USD to 599 USD while the base model stays at 499 USD (for 128GB).

The back camera has also received a minor update, along with support for WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 and Apple Pencil Pro. Two new finishes, blue and purple have also been added, replacing the former pink and purple available.

It will be interesting to see if they've fixed the jelly-scrolling issue that affected the previous-gen mini.
